Constipation may be defined as difficulty in passing stools. Constipation may be chronic or acute. Hard dry stools are passed without any satisfaction. It may also cause pain in the stomach and fullness in the abdomen.

Constipation is not a disease but it is a symptoms associated with many other diseases. Constipation can also lead to many diseases due to the accumulation of harmful substances in your body. During constipation a person feels difficulty in passing stools. Hard dry stools are passed with much effort. Some people suffering from constipation also have headache, nausea and vomiting.

Causes of constipation

Some of the important and common causes of constipation are

Less intake of water, irregular meals, diet deficient in fibers, excessive intake of tea and coffee, lack of exercise, prolonged sitting, going to sleep immediately after eating dinner and excessive intake of drugs. Stress and tension also leads to constipation. During pregnancy constipation is a common complaint.

Some of the simple home remedies for constipation are given below:

Add fibers to your diet. Fibers help to form the bulk and easy passage through your body. You can eat a bowl of salad before eating dinner at night. This will help you to get rid of constipation soon.

You should drink plenty of water. It is recommended to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water in a day. Water helps in cleaning of the intestines and removal of waste from the body.

Take high carbohydrate and protein diet. Do not take too much fat in your diet. Try to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Apple, papaya, oranges are very food fruits for treating constipation.

You can also take lemon water with some salt to treat constipation. This is a simple home remedy for constipation.

Drink a glass of warm milk every night before going to bed. You will be able to evacuate the waste easily when you will get up in the morning.

Regular exercise or daily walk also helps to keep your bowels free from harmful waste material. A good sleep is also as essential to get rid of constipation as good diet. So you should take a sleep of 8-10 hours to feel fresh.
