Home Remedies for Itching

Everybody feels to scratch the skin when he feels an itch. It is a very common problem and can occur at anytime. Excessively scratching can break your skin leaving that part open. It is an invitation to allergic attacks / infections. An itch can be mild or disruptive. The main causes of itching are sunburn, dry weather, allergic reactions, skin infections and insect bites.

Use of Lemon - Lemons have anti-inflammatory composites that help in reducing itching. Take some drops of lemon juice and apply on the affected area. Let it dry. It works like wonders in treating itching.

Use of Thyme – Thyme is a fragment herb having anti inflammatory properties. Boil a cup of water and add 3-4 leaves of thyme to it. Boil it for 3-4 minutes and allow it to cool. Dip a cloth strip in it and put this strip on itchy skin to get instant relief.

Use of Oatmeal – Take a tub of hot water and add 2 cups of oatmeal to it. Have bath with this water. Soak the itched skin area for 30 minutes. It is a very simple home remedy for itching.

Use of Basil – Basil contains eugenol which is very helpful in fighting itch. Boil 2 cups of water and add 3-4 dried leaves of basil to it. Boil the water with cover on pan to preserve the aroma essence. Boil it for 3-4 minutes. Let it cool now. Dip a cloth strip in this solution and put it over itchy skin. Use of Baking Soda – Baking soda is very simple home remedy for itching. It can fight any type of itching. You can even have a bath with baking soda mixed water. For this, take a tub of warm water and add one cup baking soda to it. Soak the itched part in this water for about an hour. Do not dry with towel. Let it dry with air only. If you do not want to have bath, you can make a baking soda paste also. Take ¼ cup of water and add 3 tablespoons of baking soda to it. Mix well to make a thick paste. Use of Cloves and Juniper Berries - Juniper berries have anti-inflammatory properties and volatile compounds. When these are combined with cloves, both can make a good treatment for itching. Take a saucepan and melt 4 ounces of butter (unsalted) in it. Take another saucepan and melt 2 tablespoons of beeswax in it. Add melted butter to it and stir well. Now add 3 tablespoons of finely ground cloves and 4 tablespoons of finely ground juniper berries to it. Mix well and stir properly. Now allow this mixture to cool. Apply on the affected area. Juniper berries are easily available at stores. But try to grind this at home to preserve their nutrients.

Use of Mint – You can use mint tea to fight itching. It works well on itchy skin because it contains menthol. Anesthetic properties of menthol help in treating itching. Boil a cup of water and add 3-4 mint leaves to it. Boil it for 3-4 minutes and allow it to cool. Now dip a cloth strip in this solution and apply on affected skin. Use of Aloe vera - Aloe vera is a simple home remedy for reducing itching. Take a leaf. Cut it from middle and apply the gel on itchy skin. It is very effective solution for reducing itching.
