Home Remedies for Diaper Rash

Urine has acids basically. Due to urine soaking, rashes appear in diaper region. Diaper rash is very common and is a big problem for babies. Well, not only babies but parents also feel discomfort able because of baby’s pain. Various ointments, lotions and creams are available in market to heal diaper rash.

Home remedies work best in healing and preventing diaper rashes.

Some home remedies for curing diaper rash are as follows –

Use of Oatmeal and lukewarm water - Add a cup of oatmeal to the tub of lukewarm water. Bathe your baby with this. He will feel ease. Do not use a harsh towel to dry the bottom. Either use a softer one or allow it to dry itself. Another most important thing is to give bottom some air. Let your child play on some soft mat without the bottom wear daily for about 30 minutes. It helps in preventing diaper rash.

Use of Olive oil - Add 5 drops of water to a tablespoon of olive oil. Mix well to form a fine paste. Regularly apply this cream on the rashes. It is a simple home remedy for healing diaper rash.

Use of Milk of Magnesia – Milk of magnesia is very effective home remedy for healing as well as preventing diaper rashes. Apply over the affected area regularly to get rid of rashes.

Use of Corn Starch, Vaseline and Desitin – Take some corn starch and spray it over the rashes. Now apply a layer of desitin over it. Leave it for a minute and apply a thin layer of Vaseline over it. This home remedy work like wonders in healing diaper rashes. Use this regularly to keep your baby happy.

Use of Cod Liver Oil Capsules – Take two cod liver oil capsules. Open them and apply the oil over rashes. It is a simple way to get rid of diaper rash.

Use of Vinegar – Vinegar is very useful in healing diaper rash. Urine is nothing but an acid and can irritate the skin sometimes. While washing the cloth diapers, add ½ cup vinegar to half bucket of water. It counterbalances the ammonia in urine. You can also wash the affected area with 1 part vinegar mixed with 8 parts of water. It is a natural home remedy for healing diaper rash.

Use of Flour – Take some flour and heat it in the pan for some time till it turns brown. Now add some water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on the affected area. It is a simple home remedy for diaper rashes.

Use of Oil for light massage – You can even massage the affected area gently with any antibacterial or anti-inflammatory oil. Tea tree oil is known to be the best. Besides this, you can also use lavender oil, sandalwood oil or chamomile oil.

Use of Baking Soda – You can bathe the baby with lukewarm water. Add 2 teaspoons of baking soda to a tub of water. It soothes the affected area and helps in healing rashes.

Use of Maalox – Maalox is very useful in preventing as well as healing diaper rash. You can apply maalox on the affected area with cotton ball. Let it dry completely. It not only treats heartburn and stomach upset but also does magic on rashes. It cools the infected skin.

Use of Cranberry Juice – Cranberry juice forbids the bacteria to stick to bladder. Give 3-4 ounces of cranberry juice to the child having rashes. This juice prevents infection also.

Do not use soaps or baby wipes too often to treat rashes as they can make the situation worsen. Chemicals in these products can irritate the soft skin of babies.
