Hangover is actually the after effects of heavy consumption of alcohol or some other drug. It generally happens when you party all night long and consume excessive quantity of alcohol.
Body is filled with toxins and reacts to that. You feel dizzy, drowsy, bad taste in mouth, upset stomach, dry mouth, body ache and headache. All the fun turns to a nightmare. Major causes of hangover are consuming large quantity of alcohol in less time, consuming alcohol on an empty stomach and of course drinking in the poor health condition.
Some home remedies can cure hangover in a short time span.
They are as follows-
Drink Lots of Water – Consume lots of water before going to bed and even after waking up. It fights with dehydration. Drink 10-12 glasses of water every day.
Eat Something before Drinking – Do not consume alcohol on an empty stomach. Eat something with and after drink. It reduces the alcohol entry rate in the body. Try to eat starch filled foods with or after drinking. These foods help in slowing down the absorption of alcohol.
Bananas – Bananas are very helpful in refilling your body with the potassium that you drained off while vomiting. Eat 1-2 bananas at a time.
Vitamin C tablets – These tablets break down the alcohol substances in the body. Take 2 Vitamin C tablets at a time if you feeling dizzy. You can even take Vitamin C rich fruits to treat hangover.
Ginger Tea – Ginger tea is a herbal home remedy to cure hangover. Boil a cup of water with some slices of fresh ginger root. Add half lemon and 2 tablespoons of honey. Strain and drink. It is very effective in healing the after effects of hangover.
Sports Drinks – These drinks give instant energy to the body. Have these drinks to maintain the fluid and glucose level in the body.
Drink Toddy –Boil a cup of water. Add ½ lemon (juice) and 2 tablespoon of honey to it. Drink this 2-3 times a day to cure hangover. This drink maintains the fluids and sugar level of your body that you lost during hangover. It is a very simple and effective home remedy for curing hangover.
Apple/ orange Juice – Juices are very effective in fighting the after effects of hangover. They maintain the fluid as well as glucose level in the body. Avoid orange juice if your stomach is upset. Take Apple juice instead.
Lime Juice – Take a glass of water and add juice of a lemon to it. This drink is known to be most effective in treating dizziness. One of the simple home remedies for hangover.
Black Coffee – Black coffee (without sugar) is very effective remedy to treat the after effects of hangover. You can add some lime juice to it also.
Thyme Tea – Boil a cup of water and add 4-5 crushed thyme leaves in it. Strain and drink the solution. It gives instant relief from hangover.
Solid Food – When you are feeling dizziness and headache, you don’t even want to look at food but that is the most important source of energy. So try eating some solid food like rice, soup or toast, even in the small quantity. You can not completely rely on liquids to get energy.
Chocolate Milk – Taking chocolate milk before going to bed can reduce the alcohol level in the body.
Ice – Ice compression is an effective way to cure headache. You can try this or dip a cloth strip in cold water and put that on the aching head. You will feel relaxed.
How to avoid hangovers
Best thing to avoid hangover is to drink in limit. Do not have more than 1 drink in an hour. Also alternate the alcoholic drink with water or you can mix some amount of water in your alcoholic drink.
